LED Grow Lights vs. HPS
So many people are moving to LED grow lights because they want to reduce their power bills. When shopping around you will notice that most LED grow lights are more expensive than traditional HID.
Most people um and arr about the cost of LED and wonder why they should pay more for something that might not produce the best results.
So lets answer some of the questions you have asked us:
Are LED lights as good as HPS?
LED grow lights produce very little heat, which for many is an advantage. However those growing with LED's in colder indoor areas may need to supplement the extra heat an HID light such as a HPS or MH would produce.
Is LED better than HSP?
First of all, it is no question that LEDs are more efficient at creating light than an HPS lamp. LEDs will always beat HPS on a light meter… But what we haven't seen is the definitively better growth performance from LED grow lights, even at wattages that are nearly the same.
Are LED grow lights worth it?
LED grow lights run much cooler than the competition and are more energy-efficient, but they are also more costly than conventional grow lights. Are they really worth the extra money? Light-emitting diodes (LEDs) are the hottest thing in interior grow lights for plants.
Are LED grow lights cheaper to run?
Yes, the initial price is more expensive, but the costs to operate a LED light compared to other lights is much less. In the end, it's actually cheaper to run a LED light electricity wise. ... With an LED light, you have the benefit of using the same bulbs for a long time.
Do LED grow lights use a lot of electricity?
LED grow lights definitely have an advantage over HID grow lights when it comes to electricity consumption. The running costs and durability of LED systems mean savings in other areas too, not just your electricity bill.
How many LED grow lights do I need?
Plants and especially cannabis need most lighting during the flowering stage, so we will be using that as an estimate of how much area needs to be covered. A standard LED grow light must use more than 32 watts per square foot of grow space, but for optimum results it should be over 50 watts, up to 80 watts.
Keeping an open mind and seeing the current results that have been presented to other shops in America we believe that LED grow lights still have some issues to be sorted but eventually with the right research and development it could be as good as a HPS.
